A lucet is a tool used in cord making or braiding which is believed to date back to the Medieval period, when it was utilized to create cords that were used on clothing, or to hang useful items from the belt. Lucet cord is square and strong. We make lucets in three sizes and in three wood choices. We have spent a lot of time experimenting with the optimum size and shape for our lucets. The best fit for most all users is the smallest one. The largest one is use for demonstration or teaching only. You’ll use them for baby-booty laces, color-coordinated drawstrings, simple braided bracelets…..
Versions of the drop spindle have been dated back to 5,000 BCE and they are still very much in use today. This is the simplest and most portable method of spinning yarn. Our solid mahogany drop spindles are beautiful, for sure, and they have been exhaustively re-designed and tested many times to achieve maximum spin duration and perfect balance. Our spindles can be used in either high-whorl or low-whorl positions, depending on the spinner’s purpose and preference. Our Greek-Cross design provides the best spin yet. It is also beautiful just lying around your studio space.
